Ikuko looks forward to present a lecture-recital to current students at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She will be sharing her practice-based research on the Japanese concept of ma in the context of concert art music and explores possibilities to apply this performance practice to the performance of concert art music (including Western traditional repertoire).
Ikuko is thrilled to be invited to perform an evening recital at the University of Colorado, Boulder, at her alma mater. She will be performing a programme consisting works by French and Japanese composer, chosen specially for this wonderful concert series.
Ikuko looks forward to performing an evening recital in the intimate Recital Room at South Hill Park.

Joined by the violinist John Kane, Ikuko performs Mozart’s unfinished violin sonatas, completed by William Drabkin. The programme also includes Takemitsu’s Hika, Joanna Senfter ‘s Elegie, and Brahms’ sonata in G major.
Ikuko discusses the Japanese concept of ma in the context of concert art music. She will also premiere A Deer in Autumn Forest, a new composition written for her by the Japanese composer Yasunoshin Morita.
With pianist Sally Goodworth, Ikuko accompanies Paragon Singers, presenting Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem with the four-hand piano accompaniment, conducted by Sarah Latto. Soloists are soprano Margaret Sings and Barton Themba Mvula.

Enjoy an afternoon concert (with tea and cake afterwards) performed by Ikuko and the shakuhachi player and flautist Suizan J.-F. Lagrost. This concert provides a rare opportunity to experience the beautiful sound of the shakuhachi (the Japanese bamboo flute) and works for flute and piano by Japanese and French composers.

In collaboration with the shakuhachi player and flautist Suizan J.-F. Lagrost, Ikuko performs an exciting programme, consisting of shakuhachi honkyoku, works for flute and piano, works for shakuhachi and piano, including To-o-ne (The Echoes), newly composed for her by the Japanese composer Yasunoshin Morita, and works for solo flute and piano. Enjoy the contrast and ensemble between these instruments.

Join Ikuko for the live stream of her lecture and performance of Tōru Takemitsu’s Rain Tree Sketch and Toshio Hosokawa’s “Etude III: haiku, calligraphy, line 1” from Etudes, hosted by the Frances Clark Centre, US. Ikuko discusses the Japanese concept of ma and how this is expressed in these works with tips for practising and interpretation. This will be followed by a Q and A session with her.
